Salve, citizens.
Frightmare in the Falls just passed this weekend and it was a perfect example of my vending experience this year - profitable and gratifying. Again, new friends. Again, old brothers and sisters. And again, many people have walked away with my art in their hands and hearts.
However, and this is something I have mentioned to many in the horror con family, the time has come for me to step away from the convention and art show circuit for a time. Before I give my reasons, let me allay some theories and fears up front….
I am not, under any circumstances, relinquishing my artistic practice and career. I will, in fact, be doing this until I am dead.
This should, in absolutely no way, be seen as a reflection on the events and organizers of those events. All of the events I have attended in the last year (Shock Stock, Niagara Falls Comic Con, the Art Crawl events put on by the Hamilton Punk Rock Flea Market, The Bazaar of the Bizarre, the Spooky Flea Market, Devilish Desires Oddities and Horror Expo and, of course, Frightmare in the Falls) have been enjoyable and profitable, in one sense or another and I cannot recommend them enough to vendors and patrons.
My reasons for doing this are somewhat manifold. The personal reasons, while primary to this decision, I will not discuss here. Professionally, however, I have long been nursing the desire to bring my work back to a gallery setting. I am also going to be spending some time reconfiguring my marketing strategy, as well as bringing some new projects to fruition, notably my book Anno Pestis and my tarot deck project. Further, I also wish to spend some time bringing in more commissions.
This was not an easy decision to come to, but for the sake of the War and the Work, it must be done.
Ave atque vale.
